Why didn't they use the boy that strips mutants from their powers to stop Jean Grey?

You see the girl that can walk through walls run off with the boy that
can strip powers from mutants. Why didn't they just let the boy come
close enough to Jean so she was stripped from her powers?
I mean in X-Men 3: Last Stand ofcourse
